Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline featuring angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in strength within the city.

Note: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The latest chapter finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the first table of heroes who will separate from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

With an extensive roster, it was evident from the start that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem unsuited, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise started the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.

Casimir then settled his obligations and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each member has a individual motive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, wants retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and advises that it is a hostile environment.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their status as key figures in House Halovar could enable the party enter areas they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him anywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The healer turned against House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This results in them no alternative but to head to Timmony in quest for the traitor.

Future Episodes

Based on the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Explorers and Strategists parties.

Viewers can anticipate finding out which players will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
